A multi-faceted program which effectively addresses a wide range of economic and social issues faced by rubber small holders, DPL Firstlight provides technical support on agricultural practices, supports community capacity building initiatives while ensuring a fair price for latex provided by farmers. A Home for Every Plantation Worker

This endeavor is implemented by the Group’s plantation companies, KVPL and TTEL ‘A Home for Every Plantation Worker’ is holistically developed to uplift the lives of our Tea harvesters and their families, who are the lifeblood of the Company. This unique and multi-dimensional community initiative, supports these employees and the estate community, amounting to nearly 150,000 individuals, in every aspect of their lives.

Living Environment: This ensures the uplifting of areas including Housing, Water, Sanitation, Recreation and Learning Facilities, which are implemented in collaboration with multiple Government Authorities and reputed Non-governmental Organizations.

Health and Nutrition: The comprehensive and detailed health and nutrition initiatives include preventive healthcare through Immunization, Antenatal and Postnatal Care, Guidance on Nutrition, Early Childhood Development Support and Auxiliary Medical Services.

Youth Empowerment: Working in collaboration with government institutes and reputed NGOs, vocational training on a range of subjects, for the estate community youth is provided. These training initiatives are also inclusive of scholarships for tertiary education, based on merit and talent and greatly encourage and shape the development of the recipients.

Community Capacity Building: In collaboration with the Estate Worker Housing Co-operative Society, this includes disbursement of Micro-financing Loans, Dental Clinics, Scholarships, Eye Clinics and other donations, as well as training programmes on an array of subjects such as Dengue Prevention, Waste Management and the prevention of Drugs / Alcohol, among others.

The extremely comprehensive initiative has brought about significant improvements in the quality of life of our estate community families and transformed their futures for the better.

Puritas Sath Diyawara

Puritas Sath Diyawara is the Group’s flagship CSR initiative, which was designed and implemented after identifying the alarming rise of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), particularly in the North Central Province of the country. CKD caused by hard and brackish drinking water has affected over 400,000 individuals (roughly 10%-15% of the population in the area) and this number is rising. The debilitating disease has claimed more than 22,000 lives to date.

The endeavor has been Initiated and implemented by Puritas (Private) Limited of the Purification Sector. Since its inception the project has grown in reach and scope with multiple and has become the hallmark CSR project of the Group with multiple sectors of the Group supporting the endeavour. The objective of Puritas Sath Diyawara is to reduce and eliminate CKD by leveraging on Puritas’s expertise in water purification, to provide clean drinking to the families of affected areas through commissioning central Reverse Osmosis water treatment systems and water distribution network.

 As of now, Puritas Sath Diyawara has reached fourteen villages through 11 projects, and has touched and transformed the lives of 25,000 people in CKD affected areas in the North and North Central provinces, giving access to 110,000 litres of purified water, daily.
