Mulkirigala
Situated in Giruwa Pattu of Hambantota District of Southern Sri Lanka, Mulkirigala is also called as 'Samudda Pabbatha", 'Muhunadra Giri', 'Muhudu Giri', 'Giriba Vehera', 'Giriba Lena', 'Dhakkina Giri', 'Dakkina Pabbatha', 'Muwatirigala', 'Mukirigalla' and 'Mulangiriya'.
Mulkirigala Raja Maha Viharaya situated in 20km from Tangalle. The temple is built on a 673ft high natural rock surrounded by 4 other rocks, hence it is also known as the Little Sigiriya.
Built in 3rd century AD by king Saddhathissa and later improved by kind Dathusena and followed by King Kirthi Sri Rajasinghe. Mulkirigala temple is also knows as a place one of the Bo saplings out of 32 sprouted from the initial Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi at Anuradhapura is planted.
The temple is built within five different compounds known as, Siyambalamaluwa, lower vihara compound, Bomaluwa, Rajamaha vihara compound, and upper Vihara compound and collection of frescos and sculptures that belongs to Kandyan era can be found in the caves.
