Samadhi Buddha
Samadi Statue is depicting the Dyana Mudra (Meditation Position) at mahamevna Park, Anuradhapura is regarded as one of the finest Buddha statues in Sri Lanka, situated amongst the extensive remains of the ancient religious city of Anuradhapura.
The statue stands 7 feet 3 inches in height and thought to be built in 3rd or 4th Century using dolomite marble and is thought to be one of four similar statues facing North, East and West. Samadhi statue was found in the present location with damages, especially with a fallen nose, which was reconstructed and opened for public 1888.
The most extraordinary fact about the Samadhi statue is that, when the statue is observed from three angles, the face features changes to sad, slightly smiling and neutral. It is a symbolic of the tranquillity of mind, with no attraction or repulsion from the world outside.
The statue can be easily found in the East from the Abhayagiri Dagoba, on the south west of the Sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and on the shore of Tissa Wewa.
